Knowing how to measure your window well.

When it comes to measuring for a window well cover, it's important to get accurate measurements to ensure that the cover fits properly and provides effective protection for your basement window. There are two common methods of measuring: inside to inside and call out.

Check the well for a sticker or a stamp in your well for your call out size for your well.

Inside-to-inside measurement is the distance between the inside edges of the window well, while call-out measurement is the distance from the outside edge of the window well to the outside edge of the window trim or siding.

To measure for a window well cover using the inside-to-inside method, follow these steps:

  1. Measure the distance between the inside edges of the window well in three places: at the top, middle, and bottom. Make sure to measure the width and height accurately.

  2. Take the smallest measurement of the three and subtract 1/2 inch. This will give you the width and height of the cover you need, example below.

To measure for a window well cover using the call-out method, follow these steps:

  1. Measure the distance from the outside edge of the window well to the outside edge of the window trim or siding.

  2. Add 1 inch to both the width and height to ensure proper coverage of the window well.

Once you have determined the proper measurements, you can select a window well cover that fits your window well size and shape. It's always a good idea to double-check your measurements and consult with a professional if you're not sure about the proper size and type of cover to get for your specific window well.
